Licence and Usage Policy

What you are buying

When you buy a Lightening Up product you are buying a licence to use it, not ownership of it. I keep the copyright. You keep the right to use it as set out below.

Personal licence (the default on every purchase)

You may: use it yourself, print as many copies as you need for your own use, use it with your own supporters, family or advocate, and adapt it for your own situation.

You may not: share the file, resell it, upload it anywhere public, or use it to deliver a paid service to other people.

Supporter use

If you support someone, as a family member, support worker, or friend, you may use the product with the person you support, at no extra cost. That is what it is for.

Practitioner licence

If you use a product with clients as part of your paid work, you need a practitioner licence. This covers one practitioner working with their own clients, and allows printing for those clients.

It does not allow sharing files with clients, or use across a team.

Organisational licence

For teams, services, schools and programs. Covers a named number of staff, allows internal distribution to those staff, and includes use with the people the organisation supports.

Organisations may not: publish our materials anywhere public, put them behind their own paywall, remove our branding, present them as their own work, or use them to build a competing product.

What no licence permits

Reselling, sub-licensing, sharing on file-sharing or template sites, using the content to train AI systems, or removing copyright notices.

A person’s own information

If you are an organisation using our tools with people you support, anything those people write belongs to them, not to you and not to us. Do not retain it without their consent, do not use it for anything they have not agreed to, and do not share it beyond what they expect.

Accessibility

You may always convert a product into a format you need, including Easy Read, large print, braille or audio, for your own use or the use of a person you support. You do not need to ask. Just do not distribute the converted version publicly.

If a licence is breached

We will contact you first and ask you to stop. We would much rather have a conversation than a dispute.
